"Readers will find themselves rooting almost immediately for someone honest enough to unflinchingly reveal the most embarrassing aspects of weighing 400-plus pounds...an inspirational debut." --Kirkus Reviews, Nov. 2007
"Though consistently funny and entertaining, Blech pulls no punches regarding life with "The Body...." The obese and their loved ones will gain practical advice as well as a large measure of insight, from this intense, bravura memoir." Publisher's Weekly, (starred review) January, 2008
ABOUT SUSAN BLECH
I confess. I never thought I'd write a book (with Caroline Bock, my sister!). Born in the Bronx, and raised in New Rochelle, New York, I'm the third of four children brought up by my father. When I was one-and-a-half, my mother suffered a stroke, which resulted in lasting brain damage and paralysis -- more on this in Confessions of a Carb Queen.
In November of 2003,at 468.1 pounds, I moved to Durham, leaving friends and family, for the world renowned Rice Diet Program (for more info go to www.ricedietprogram.com) While in Durham, I developed motivational talks on weight loss and have been a featured speaker on several occasions at Duke University Medical Center.
I would love to do more of these talks. If you are part of interested group, please email me at info@susanblech.com.
Major update:
Recently, I changed my life again! I am now the Senior Care Coordinator at an incredible program -- Brookdale Hospital's childhood obesity program --Live Light, Live Right in Brooklyn, New York.
This free outreach program serves to educate city kids and their families in the neighbordhoods of Bedford Styvesant, East New York, Brownsville and among other Brooklyn areas about the dangers of obesity. Find out more about this remarkable program go to livelightobesity.org.
Keep checking back for updates!
And, for all the gripping, raw, and hopefully inspiring details of my life, yes, you know it...you must buy my memoir: Confessions of a Carb Queen by Susan Blech with Caroline Bock.
For Book Clubs!
Confessions of a Carb Queen will jumpstart any discussion! One idea: once you've read the book, CONFESS your worst eating habit -- even if each of you write it down anonymously and drop it into a hat. Lose the lies and the shame!
If you have a book club, reading group or literary blog and would like to me to join your group via a conference call or if you would like to email questions to me, I would be thrilled to answer them. Please send me an email info@susanblech.com and write in the subject line "Book Club Query." I'll be looking out for all your emails!
